Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI)
The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is the federal cybersecurity authority and a key driver of secure digitalization in Germany.
A core task of the BSI is to defend against cyberattacks on government networks and federal administration. Institutions in federal, state, and other administrative sectors also benefit from modernized IT baseline protection, minimum standards, and services in IT security consulting, certification, and approval, as well as support for IT security incidents through CERT-Bund, mobile response teams (MIRT), or the National Cyber Response Center.
Operators of critical infrastructures (KRITIS) benefit from collaboration with the BSI under the IT Security Act, which entered into force in 2015, as well as participation in UP KRITIS, a public-private partnership between KRITIS operators, associations, and government agencies to enhance IT security in Germany.
