Digital transformation is often planned and analyzed—but rarely implemented decisively. This is exactly where the conversation with Florian Kretschmer, Head of Business Development at workingbits, comes in. The focus here is not on theories or the next big trend, but on the crucial question: Why do so many digital transformation projects fail between the strategic document and actual implementation?

workingbits specializes in closing this gap. While traditional consulting firms provide concepts, and agencies often implement these concepts only technically, the company bridges both through an integrated approach. For more than 15 years, the team has developed software solutions, integrated AI into existing business processes, and accompanied companies from the initial analysis to continuous operation—all internally, without subcontractors and without interruptions in the project flow.

In the conversation, Florian Kretschmer provides exciting insights into the reality of digital transformation: Why honest analysis is more important than any requirements document, how medium-sized companies can practically and quietly enter the topic of AI, and why speed does not have to be at odds with quality. The conversation particularly highlights workingbits’ promise of delivering results in just 30 days, while other service providers need half a year to achieve the same results.

Furthermore, the conversation examines what companies truly expect today: transparency instead of a black box, direct communication with the implementers instead of handover processes, and technically enterprise-grade implementation—along with the flexibility of a focused team.

This is a conversation that not only asks questions but provides concrete answers—for all those who no longer want to plan their digital transformation but finally implement it.

Silicon Valley Europe: Mr. Kretschmer, many companies face a major gap between strategic consulting and actual implementation. In your view, why do so many digital transformation projects fail at this point?

Florian Kretschmer: The core problem is always the same: There are people writing concepts, and there are people writing code—and often, no one who understands both is sitting in the same room. Traditional consulting firms deliver a strategic document that looks great on paper. Then it’s handed over to an agency, and suddenly it becomes clear that half of it isn’t technically feasible as expected. Or it takes three times as long because fundamental questions weren’t answered in the concept.

We encounter this regularly: A company comes to us after spending €50,000 or more on a digital transformation strategy—and in the end, they get an 80-page PDF file, but not a single process is up and running. That’s frustrating for everyone involved.

We consciously do things differently. We provide consulting and execute it—with the same team. The people who sit with the client gathering requirements are the same ones who then write the code. So there are no translation losses and no unpleasant surprises. That’s why we can deliver so quickly.

Silicon Valley Europe: You emphasize an “analysis before execution” approach. How do you concretely identify what a company truly needs—not just what it thinks it needs?

Florian Kretschmer: This is crucial. Many companies come to us and say, “We need an app” or “We need AI.” Then we ask, why exactly? And often, there’s silence. Not because people don’t know what they want—but because they haven’t yet defined the problem well enough.
