The Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region sees digitalisation and intelligent networking of public administration with the economy as offering diverse opportunities to address societal challenges (e.g. demographic change, energy transition, reducing bureaucracy, pandemics, etc.), which contribute to the sustainable development of cities, districts and regions and thus improve quality of life in the metropolitan region. At the same time, activities and projects in the field of digitalisation and e-government contribute to regional development in the region.
The pilot project “Cooperative E-Government in Federal Structures” was launched in 2010 and is a unique cross-state and cross-level project nationwide. Using the Rhine-Neckar region as an example, the states of Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate, together with regional stakeholders from business, academia, politics and administration, demonstrate how networking and the sensible use of IT can help to make processes between business and administration simpler, faster and more cost-effective.
The KommunalCampus is a component of the cross-state pilot project as a CIO project by State Secretary Patrick Burghardt and aims to build digital skills at the municipal level through needs-oriented further and continuing education offerings.
